A Guide to Choosing the Ideal Kids/Beginner/School Rigs by Windsurf Magazine.
• Higher cut clew – this is an especially a good feature on small sail sizes, because the pressure point can move further back when tacking large (beginner) boards
• All sails have significantly better performance in planing mode as some extra profile has been added while still keeping the option of rigging without battens touching the mast
• A more compact mast sleeve for easier uphauling
• Low batten protection strip to reduce wear on the sail
• A mast foot protector to avoid abrasion
• Blind-stitched foot area to increase the durability in this hard-wearing zone
• ZERO monofilm – totally Dacron sail with PVC window to increase longevity, especially useful in high UV locations
• Extra protection in foot thanks to a plastic reinforced webbing strip
• Reduced number of battens on the smallest sizes (1.5 / 2.0 / 2.5) and aluminium masts for significant weight reduction. Sizes 3.0 / 3.5 / 4.0 / 4.5 / 5.0 / 5.5 remain 4 batten, with RDM masts for ultimate stability and durability in stronger wind
• Fixed top for weigh reduction and extra protection
• All sails come equipped with adjustable booms for precise rigging
• Boom grips have different colours on each side (one side the colour of the sail, the other black) so it’s easy for instructors to communicate to students when they are on the ‘wrong’ side of the sail
• Each sail size has a unique colour to aid quick assessment of what equipment you have on the water
• All sails are cut so that a fair amount of downhaul tension is required, as it’s important to keep the leech tight in higher winds. Many (lower cost) alternatives have an open leech that prevents early planing.
